TRAVEL & TOURISM LAW NEWS: India Extends Visa-On-Arrival to Tourists from 180 Countries

As from 5th February 2014, but with effect from September 2014, India has opened up the possibility of a Visa-On-Arrival for tourists from one hundred and eighty (180) countries, including US, UK, China, UAE and Ukraine and this with the exception of tourists hailing from eight (8) countries, they being Pakistan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia and Sri Lanka, who are expected to continue to apply for their visa through their respective embassies. The Visa-On-Arrival facility was previously only available to tourists from twelve (12) countries.

Tourists from the one hundred and eighty (180) countries must now apply online for electronic travel authorisation at least three days prior to their date of traveling to India. On their arrival at the twenty-six (26) airports in India, they will have to undergo a biometric identification to get the visa which visa will be valid for thirty (30) days and is not renewable.
